Wieden + Kennedy commissioned Global Marketing Publication for Nokia

Based on the ever-growing subculture of mobile phone photography (Phontography), ‘Phontography is here’ was the publication that draws attention to this image-making revolution and our intrinsic need to share things. The publication was distributed with Nokia’s new handsets and used as a part of their global marketing, with a print run of 10 million copies.

Wieden + Kennedy gave us creative autonomy which allowed us to not only develop the design and art direction but the concept and contents. One of our concepts was to use the general screen dimensions of Nokia’s mobile phones, with the magazine’s format, layout grid and images contained, a ratio of those same dimensions …well OK, admittedly with two exceptions! Nick Waplington was commissioned as the magazine’s ‘phontographer’, taking 99% of all images used. Collectively we were able to produce a  visually-arresting insight into the world of phontography.
